Help your young students to appreciate living in WA by talking about all the things they can do each day and what we love about our state. Easter

I’m very thankful that in my career I have taught in schools that embrace cultural diversity. This primary slideshow describes the significance of Easter for Christians and includes a link to an  Australian animation of the Easter story. As the longest Australian public holiday, a presentation of the Easter story provides an opportunity for students to understand our Judeo-Christian cultural heritage brought to Australia with the early settlers.  The Easter story represents Christian beliefs – just as Dreamtime stories represent Aboriginal culture and Ramadan reflects Muslim beliefs. An understanding of multiple cultural beliefs is enriching and essential for general knowledge in our multicultural society. There is no such thing as a neutral worldview, so I introduce all such cultural activities  with “This is what (group) believe about (event) …”

This slideshow includes information about simple recycling, an lunch box investigation of recyclable materials and a craft activity to make something new out of recyclables. The offical site (opens in a new window) contains lots of interesting information and a downloadable guide with further early childhood resources and activities.

National Science Week: Robots

National Science Week: Robots

Dogs now come in two versions; live and robotic! Meet CHiP the robot and Rusty the Jack Russell. This interactive whiteboard slideshow will hopefully create some interesting discussions about the advantages and disadvantages of both! Please let me know how the votes fall in the comments below and share with any early childhood teachers interested in a ready-made activity for National Science Week (commences on Saturday 13th August).
